Second Semester Reminders:

As we kickoff second semester on Monday, I wanted to take the time to remind you of some of our routines at LPHS.

Passes - All students that are leaving your classroom, must have a pass.  If they do not, either admin or intervention will be walking them back to your class.

Attendance and Class Roster - This one is really important.  Please make sure that your attendance is taken regularly and accurately.  In addition, when you are running your classes, it is important that you not have any student in your rooms that do not belong there.

Behavior Referrals - Before you write the referral for minor behaviors, you are expected to make a call home.  If no call is made, admin will not be addressing minor behaviors.  If you need assistance for a student immediately, please call for intervention.  Do not send a student out of your classroom to the RTC, to ISS, or just kick a kid out, without communicating with someone.  Teachers should not be sending students directly to ISS.  ISS counts as a day of removal and needs to be documented properly by school admin.

Finally, as our class rosters change, it is often tempting to comment on being glad one kid is out of your class, or dreading a name that you have on your class roster.  As we've continued to become more trauma informed, we learn that this mindset can severely damage any opportunity we had at establishing a good relationship with that student.  Just because the teacher down the hall had issues with their freshman class, it doesn't mean you will as well when you get some of them.  Check out this article for some good points on "The Danger of Teacher Nostalgia."

You guys do some incredible work and I'm looking forward to seeing what the second semester holds for each of you and your students!
