This week at LPHS, May 29 - JUNE 1!

Good Morning,

It appears as though summer has arrived!  I hope you all had a great long weekend and are refreshed for the push down the homestretch!

We have a pretty busy week, as they all seem to be right now.

On Tuesday, all four admin are at the board office for training in the Resilient Schools Project.  We are all reachable by phone if an emergency arises.

Seniors will take finals on Wednesday and Thursday during the course of a regular schedule with seniors leaving after third hour on Thursday.

Thursday evening is the Senior Awards in the auditorium at 7:00.

Have a great week!

This week at LPHS, May 21-25

I'd like to start by thanking all of the staff that attended Prom on Friday night for making the evening a tremendous success.  Lori Bodary and many others worked hard to make sure that it was well organized, looked gorgeous, and went off without a flaw.  I was blown away by how great our kids were and by how much fun they all had.  The work you all did to make the evening special was incredible and I was very proud to be there!  Thank you a ton!

This week is a busy one at LPHS with math and science observations wrapping up today, an early release and Social Studies and Special Ed observations happening on Wednesday

For Tuesday's early release, we will start in the media center with a presentation from Mrs. Seagram and Ms. Jasso on scaffolding and inviting students in to their learning.  This is the result of many staff suggestions on needing classroom tools to help address the students that refuse to participate.  I am looking forward to the presentation and know that both Sarah and Kelly have worked hard to prepare it.  Thank you both for that!  After their presentation, departments will be allowed to work together to wrap up curriculum and assessment loose ends.  Everyone will be free to go at 3:30.

Wednesday evening is a busy one for our students, especially in the area of the arts.  Our Choir classes, lead by Mr. Magill, will perform at 7:00 in the LPHS auditorium and many of our art students, lead by Mrs. Sisk will have their work on display at The Downriver Council for the Arts in Wyandotte.  Their Opening Night will be from 5:00-7:00 that evening.  The art is already on display, and will remain so through May 26.

We have fire drills on Thursday, at 10:00 am and will make up last week's on Friday at 1:00.  Please talk to your students about the importance of staying together during these drills for the purposes of school safety.

Lastly, it was brought to my attention today that the magnets we distributed a couple of weeks ago could also serve a useful purpose in the case of an emergency if they were used on closet doors.  There have been many students kept safe during recent emergencies inside of locked classroom closets/storage areas.  If you do not keep things that need to be kept away from students, feel free to take an extra magnet from my office to be used on these doors as well.  It's a terrible thought to have, but one that may be helpful.

Have a great week!

This Week at LPHS, May 14-18

Throughout the week, Dillon Marshall-Alley, a student in the ASD program, will be collecting food for a Memorial Day project that will be donated to a church in Lincoln Park that provides food for our neediest of families.  There is a collection box in the main office and Dillon will kick off our staff meeting tomorrow with a quick introduction to the project.

On Tuesday, we will have a PSP meeting in the media center.  These have been much better lately with far more focused goals.  Please continue to ensure that these are data informed decisions that can be put in to effect immediately in your classrooms.  Keep our instructional cycle in mind as you do so and plan for assessment throughout the lesson.

Also on Tuesday, our Top Ten students will be honored at the Lincoln Park Board of Education meeting.  This is one of many exciting events for these students this time of year.

Our BTN will meet on Thursday, at 7:10 in the conference room in the back of the Media Center.

On Friday night, our students and staff will be celebrating Prom at Arnaldo's in Riverview.

As a friendly reminder, we have a lot of PD and Spring Athletic activities taking place during the school day this week and next.  If you know you are going to be absent, please make sure you get it in AESOP as soon as possible.  As the temperatures rise, so does the percentage of unfilled jobs in our buildings.  Getting the absences in early helps with that.

Have a great week!

This week at LPHS, May 7-11

Hello LPHS Staff,

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Our students are lucky to have such a dedicated group of individuals working on their behalf.  I feel fortunate every day to get to work with you all!

This week we have an early release day on Tuesday.  During this time, your department heads will be given the sign in sheets.  Mr. Kraft will have CTE, the arts, and PE.  At the conclusion of the meeting, I will need a printed and brief agenda/minutes from either the department or individually if you do not have a department.

On Friday, in celebration of our Teacher Appreciation Week, we will have an Angelina's Taco Bar for you to enjoy during lunches.  I will let you know where it will be set up later in the week.

Have a great week!
